New Zogby Poll Shows the People Want Bill Russell

A new Zogby Poll of Republican likely voters in the 12th Congressional District shows William Russell with a commanding lead over Tim Burns in a head-to-head matchup. Respondents choose Russell (37%) over Burns (7%), and 57% said not sure/other.

"Support for Russell shines through in favorability comparisons, with Russell receiving a 47% favorability rating among likely GOP voters compared to 24% for Burns," said Zogby International Communications Director Sam Rodgers. "Also, far more GOP likely voters say they are not familiar with Burns (72%) compared to 49% who say the same about Russell."

"Fifty-one percent of those identifying as Conservative view Russell favorably, as do 55% of those with a college degree or higher, both important groups," said Rodgers. "Similarly, while Russell handily defeats Burns in the horserace matchup by 30 percentage points, Russell’s margin of victory is larger among those who describe themselves as Conservatives (40% Russell, 6% Burns) and those with a college degree or higher (43% Russell, 5% Burns)."

Freedom’s Defense Fund Launches “Christie Exposed”
Monday, April 20, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Today, the Freedom’s Defense Fund (FDF) unveiled a Web site, direct mail and the first of what could be several television ads targeting Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie. According to FDF, the ad centers around recently reported pay-to-play and no-bid contract controversies during Christie’s tenure as U.S. Attorney, despite his public pledges to end these corrupt practices, should he become New Jersey’s Governor.

“As a leading advocacy group in the conservative movement, we have a responsibility to weigh in when choices are clear in Republican primaries,” said Todd Zirkle, Chairman of the Freedom’s Defense Fund. “In New Jersey, we have an ethically challenged candidate versus a principled conservative in Steve Lonegan. It’s a no-brainer to get involved.”

Freedom’s Defense Fund ads will be airing on cable news networks across the state. Direct mail is designed to support the television campaign and a Web site has been created at www.christieexposed.com.

“If we can expose New Jersey to the risks of Chris Christie and help be the conscience of the conservative movement, we’re happy to do it,” said Zirkle. “If it benefits a tax-reforming, waste-gutting, family-supporting candidate like Steve Lonegan, so much the better.”

FDF is a political action committee (PAC). FDF is dedicated to the principles of limited government, as the Founders understood them. FDF stands with conservative, pro-freedom candidates against the radical left and their elitist allies in Washington. FDF was established in 2004 and has over 20,000 supporters nationwide.

Freedom's Defense Fund First to Hit Freshman Democrat
Ad launched targeting vulnerable freshman Tom Perriello

WASHINGTON, DC — The Freedom’s Defense Fund, a conservative political action committee (PAC), announced their first television ad targeting vulnerable freshman Democrats in the US House. The ad’s focus is Democrat Tom Perriello (VA-05) and his vote for the pork-filled “stimulus” package that moved through the liberal controlled chamber.

“Mr. Perriello promised to fight for the Commonwealth of Virginia while running for Congress,” said Todd Zirkle, Executive Director of the Freedom's Defense Fund. “In his first critical vote, he instead sided with liberals like Nancy Pelosi, sanctioning the wish list long-desired by radical special interests.”

Despite bi-partisan opposition, Perriello voted for the $819 billion “stimulus” package. The package contained billions for wasteful projects including:  arts funding; food stamps; television coupons; and sexually transmitted disease education. The ads will air on Fox News, CNN and MSNBC on cable systems throughout Perriello’s Congressional district.

“Virginians have a hard time discerning how food stamps, STD education and television coupons stimulate the economy and create more jobs,” said Zirkle. “We need a Congressman who will stand with Virginia taxpayers, not the National Endowment for the Arts.”

The Freedom's Defense Fund is a Washington, DC-based PAC with more than 18,000 donors. Previous advertising campaigns include a series on “friends” of Barak Obama during the 2008 presidential election and a recent ad campaign in New Hampshire and Iowa thanking Sarah Palin.
